MIAMI, Florida – Week three of 2019/20 Concacaf Nations League Qualifying came to an end on Tuesday with Dominica and French Guiana picking up three points each.
The day started with Dominica downing Sint Maarten 2-0 at the Raymond E. Guishard Technical Centre in The Valley, Anguilla to earn its first win in CNLQ.
Julian Wade gave Dominica a dream start by firing in a rebound in just the 6’ minute to make it 1-0 to the visitors.
Dominica remained in control and nailed down the 2-0 final in the 52’ thanks to a Randolph Peltier strike off a cross from the right from Briel Thomas.
There were still positives for Sint Maarten on the day though, as GK Sjoerd Van Griensven produced an excellent performance with some top saves.
Dominica improves its record to 1W-1D-1L, 4 points, while Sint Maarten is now 0W-0D-3L, 0 points.
The other action on the day saw French Guiana hang on to defeat Guyana 2-1 at the Stade Municipal Dr. Edmard Lama in Cayenne.
French Guiana started strong and was rewarded with a 1-0 lead in the 18’ through Jules Haabo.
The momentum remained on French Guiana’s side and just moments into the second half, Haabo struck for his second of the night with a fine right-footed finish.
Guyana would not go away though and Neil Danns made it a one-goal game again, 2-1, by sweeping in a shot off a corner kick in the 60’.
But French Guiana would hang on to collect the three points and improve its record to 2W-0D-1L, 6 points, while Guyana falls to 1W-1D-1L, 4 points.
