Guyana look to increase stranglehold on Group B in League B

Published on

MIAMI, Florida – The third round of matches in Group B of League B of the 2022-23 Concacaf Nations League are here, as Guyana continues to defend its first-place spot.

The Golden Jaguars will look to stay in pole position for promotion, but second place Haiti has other ideas, as Guyana welcome Haiti to the National Track and Field Centre in Leonora. This encounter pits the first and second place nations in the group, separated by only two points, meaning, if one leaves as the winner, it will be in the top spot to end the day.

The Golden Jaguars are looking for their first victory over Haiti in their sixth overall encounter. The most recent meeting went Haiti’s way, for the fourth time, in a 3-1 friendly victory on Costa Rican soil on June 11, 2019, exactly three years removed from their upcoming encounter.

The all-time series between these two nations dates back to 1973 and will span over the course of six decades when the ball kicks off in Leonora. It will be the first CNL match for two foes who have also played against each other in Caribbean Cup and Gold Cup qualification.

Guyana is coming off back-to-back victories over Montserrat and Bermuda, while Haiti broke a five-match winless run in CNL play with a 3-2 victory over Montserrat.

Omari Glasgow of Guyana leads the League B scoring charts with three goals to his name. The 18-year-old was the author of the game-winning goal for his nation in its two CNL encounters.

Montserrat vs. Bermuda

Montserrat and Bermuda face off at the Felix Sanchez Olympic Stadium in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. The two nations will be looking for a valuable three points that could push them out of the bottom of the group.

This will be the third overall encounter, first in CNL, with the prior two meetings coming during World Cup qualification for Germany 2006. Bermuda won both of those meetings in 2004.

Both are looking for their first victory in the group, with Montserrat carrying a two-match losing streak. Bermuda played Haiti to a scoreless draw in their opener, before falling to Guyana.
