Jamaica, Costa Rica seeking comebacks in CNL quarterfinals second leg

MIAMI – The 2024/25 Concacaf Nations League continues Monday with second-leg encounters in the quarterfinals in League A, which will decide berths to both the 2025 CNL Finals and 2025 Gold Cup.

The United States will seek to build on its 1-nil lead when they host Jamaica in the second leg of their series. Panama hosts Costa Rica in the other match of the day, with Los Canaleros entering with a 1-0 advantage.

The aggregate score winner will advance to the 2025 Concacaf Nations League Finals and 2025 Gold Cup. Away goals will serve as the first tiebreaker. If necessary, extra time and penalties will be played to define a winner.

Panama vs. Costa Rica 

Panama hosts Costa Rica in the second leg of their series at the Estadio Rommel Fernández in Panama City, Panama.

José Fajardo struck from the penalty spot to score the sole goal in the game and lead Panama to a 1-nil win in the first leg. Panama will seek to rally behind its home fans to close out the series and return to the CNL Finals for a third consecutive edition.

Costa Rica will look to young attacking star Warren Madrigal, who’s tallied two goals, and forward Manfred Ugalde, who concluded the group stage as the team’s top assist provider with two, to turn the series around and return to the CNL Finals after participating in the inaugural edition.

The match presents the 58th all-time meeting between the sides. Costa Rica leads the series with 27 wins to 16 for Panama, with the teams drawing on 14 occasions.

United States vs. Jamaica 

The United States meets Jamaica in the second leg of their series at CITYPARK in St. Louis, Missouri.

The United States enters with the lead thanks to a 5th-minute goal from Ricardo Pepi in Kingston, Jamaica. Christian Pulisic delivered the match-winning assist for the Stars and Stripes, who are searching for the trophy for a fourth consecutive tournament.

Matt Turner also stood out in the first leg with a vital save in the 14’ to deny a penalty kick opportunity.

Jamaica will strive for a comeback to return to the CNL Finals to match or better the team’s third-place finish in 2024, its best-ever finish. Joel Latibeaudiere led the attack in the first leg with two shots, including one on target.
