Lopez sees bright days ahead for Honduras

DENVER, Colorado – While things may not have gone the way they hoped in Thursday’s 1-0 semifinal defeat to the United States in the 2021 Concacaf Nations League semifinals, Honduras MF Alex Lopez believes that their performance suggests brighter days are ahead for the Catrachos in what will be a very pivotal next 12 months.

“We were only six or seven minutes away from getting to penalties and in penalties it’s a lottery. But I think what showed is that Honduras in World Cup qualifying is going to be in the fight and we know that good matches are ahead for Honduras,” said Lopez in an exclusive postgame interview with Concacaf.com.

“We’re sad because we knew we were up against a great opponent. I feel like we went toe-to-toe, but that’s football. You have to convert your chances. They only had three or four chances in the entire game, we had the same number, but in the end the most important thing is getting the ball into the net,” added Lopez.

The result places Honduras into Sunday’s Third-Place match against fellow Central American side Costa Rica.

It is a match that could well set the tone for the upcoming matches, including the 2021 Concacaf Gold Cup and the start of the final round of Concacaf World Cup Qualifying.

“We need to study the errors we committed today and correct them so that in the next match so we can do thing in the best way possible to be able to take home the win,” concluded Lopez.
