SAN PEDRO SULA, Honduras – Honduras earned a 2-nil win over Mexico in the first leg of their quarterfinals series in League A of the 2024/25 Concacaf Nations League on Friday at Estadio Francisco Morazán in San Pedro Sula, Honduras.

Raul Jiménez had the most straightforward chance for the visitors in the first half in the 21’, but his left-footed volley from the center of the box was high above the crossbar.

In the 40’, Joseph Rosales had a good look for Honduras with a left-footed strike from long-range that was met by a save from Mexico goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa.

Luis Palma opened the scoring for Los Catrachos in the 64’, taking advantage of a rebound inside the box to send the ball to the back of the net with a right-footed attempt.

Palma secured his brace, and the victory for the hosts, in the 79’, driving down the left flank and cutting into the center of the pitch before striking with a right-footed shot through the ground.

The win gives Honduras a two-goal lead heading into the second leg on Tuesday in Toluca, Mexico.
