DENVER, Colorado – Just days after lifting the 2020-21 UEFA Champions League trophy as a member of English Premier League side Chelsea, Christian Pulisic is eager to win some more hardware, this time with the United States National Team.
The 22-year-old is aiming to win his first Concacaf title this week at the Concacaf Nations League Finals at Empower Field at Mile High in Denver, Colorado, and his motivation to do it is evident by the smile that creases his face when he talks about being back with his national team teammates.
“It’s really special after such a crazy year, to be back with these guys and get a chance to go after a trophy, so I’m thrilled and it’s going to be a lot of fun,” said Pulisic in an exclusive interview with Concacaf.com.
The U.S. will play in their first official match since their Group A finale of League A of the 2019-20 CNL in November 2019 when they meet Honduras in the CNLF semifinals on Thursday.
While Pulisic played against Honduras in two previous Concacaf World Cup Qualifiers, many of the players on the U.S. squad will be making their first appearance against Honduras in an official match.
The matches between the two nations are always tenacious affairs decided by the thinnest of margins, meaning Pulisic will be called upon to help his younger teammates out on how to approach the Catrachos.
“I’m going to speak with them more of course. I think they understand what it’s like, but not to the extent of what it is. Playing against a team like Honduras is very intense. They fight with everything that they have, so we have to be ready for all parts of the game, physically and mentally. I’ll definitely harp on that and show the guys the way,” concluded Pulisic.
