THE VALLEY, Anguilla -- After a tough opening match against Barbados, Saint Martin will get a chance to rebound when they take on the US Virgin Islands in nearby Anguilla in Group A of League C.
The Dashing Eagle suffered a 2-0 home defeat to the Cayman Islands on Thursday afternoon, and only have a few days to recover before they travel to meet a dangerous Saint Martin side that scored five goals in its last two matches of qualifying.
For the USVI, Aaron Dennis and JC Mack III both came close to scoring against the Cayman Islands, and Raejae Joseph had a very active first half.
Forward Yannick Bellechasse played a nice game for Saint Martin against Barbados, and will be hungry for his first goal of the competition on Sunday.
Saint Martin and the US Virgin Islands have only met once before, when they drew 0-0 in Jamaica as part of Caribbean Cup qualifying way back in 2004.
A loss for either side would put a serious dent in their promotion hopes, potentially falling six points back of the group leader. Conversely, a win could put the victor as close as one point off the pace depending on the result of the other match.
