KINGSTOWN. St. Vincent and the Grenadines and the Bahamas played to a 1-1 draw Monday at the Arnos Vale Stadium, as both teams wrapped up their 2022-23 Concacaf Nations League campaign in League B Group C with a point.
The post was a participant early in the contest, with SVG FW Oalex Anderson pinging it in the second minute with a floating ball, but SVG had better chances in the 12th minute when Bahamas GK Ian Lowe stopped a cross, but left the rebound for Kyle Edwards, who put a shot on target only to see Lowe make a second save in short succession.
SVG FW Cornelius Stewart put in a cross in the 19th minute for Edwards, who had the goalkeeper beaten, but saw Bahamas DF Lesly St. Fleur on the line clearing his shot away.
The Bahamas had the ball in the back of the net in the 56th minute when FW Quinton Carey ran onto a rebound and put the ball across the line, but his celebration was cut short when he saw the assistant referee’s flag raised for offside.
St. Vincent and the Grenadines took a 1-0 lead when Anderson won a penalty in the 58th minute, getting taken down from behind, and Edwards converted from the spot by sending his shot to the right of Lowe.
But the visitors were level again in the 70th minute. After Vincy Heat starting GK Jadiel Chance had to leave the game, Bahamas MF Marcel Joseph decided to try a shot from some distance on the left wing. The ball beat substitute GK Josh Stowe, kissing the post and going in for the team’s first goal from open play in this CNL campaign.
Both teams now look to the next CNL campaign, once again preparing for League B competition and searching for promotion to League A.
