Suriname hosts Canada, Honduras host Mexico in League A quarterfinals

MIAMI – The 2024/25 Concacaf Nations League continues on Friday, headlined by the quarterfinals in League A, which will decide berths to both the 2025 CNL Finals and 2025 Gold Cup.

Suriname will make its quarterfinal debut by hosting Canada in the first leg of their series. Honduras hosts Mexico as another chapter is written in their storied rivalry.

During the November window, the home-and-away series will determine the teams advancing

to the 2025 Concacaf Nations League Finals at Hollywood Park and SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles,

California. The Quarterfinal winners will also qualify for next summer’s Gold Cup, while the

losing teams will move on to the 2025 Gold Cup Prelims.

Suriname vs. Canada

Suriname welcomes Canada at the Dr. Ir. Franklin Essed Stadion in Paramaribo, Suriname.

The encounter will be a first-ever CNL matchup and the third meeting between the sides. Canada leads the all-time series with two wins in the previous matches.

Following a second-place finish in Group A with a 2-1-1 record, Suriname will make its quarterfinals debut as part of a historic campaign. Suriname will also seek to continue its positive momentum on home soil, where the nation is unbeaten in four CNL home games. Suriname will look to its stellar attack, which includes Gleofilio Vlijter, the nation’s all-time CNL scorer with 12 goals, Sheraldo Becker, and Virgil Misidjan.

Canada will seek to return to the CNL Finals in search of winning its first title after finishing runners-up in 2022/23 edition. Alphonso Davies, Jonathan David, and goalkeeper Maxime Crépeau were key players in Canada’s fourth-place finish at the 2024 Copa América last summer and will be among the players to watch.

Honduras vs. Mexico 

Honduras hosts Mexico at Estadio Francisco Morazán in San Pedro Sula, Honduras. 

Los Catrachos finished second in Group B with a 2-1-1 record and will strive to reach its first CNL Finals. David Ruiz struck two goals in the group stage and leads Honduras in scoring in the current campaign. 

Mexico is seeking a fourth consecutive semifinal appearance in the CNL Finals and first under reappointed manager Javier Aguirre. Edson Álvarez and Raúl Jiménez highlight the latest roster, which also includes Ángel Sepúlveda and Henry Martín, who are tied for second place among Liga MX top scorers in the Apertura 2024 season.

The teams will face off for the third time in CNL action following the two quarterfinal fixtures in the 2023/24 edition and for the 46th time across all competitions in their history. Mexico leads the all-time series with 18 wins to eight for Honduras, while nine encounters have finished in draws.
