PROVIDENCIALES, Turks and Caicos Islands -- The Turks and Caicos Islands were battling for their Nations League life on Thursday afternoon against the visiting Sint Maarten, needing a victory to stay in the promotion hunt.
They got what they were after, emerging 3-2 winners after a hard-fought performance.
But it was Sint Maarten who struck first, with phenom Gerwin Lake netting his fifth of the competition right through the legs of Pendieno Brooks in the 12th minute.
After a brilliant counterattacking run, Marco Fenelus got the ball to Billy Forbes in the box who calmly set up Jose Elcius for the equalizer in the 37th minute.
Just moments before halftime in minute 45+1, Sint Maarten knocked the wind out of the TCA sails when Lake assisted on a goal scored by Remslei Boelijn.
Things got interesting in the 75th minute when Lenford Singh leveled things up at 2-2 after being denied on what seemed like a countless number of times earlier in the half.
Turks and Caicos furiously pushed forward, and in the 92nd minute Billy Forbes scored the dramatic winner to put the home side ahead 3-2.
The result means Sint Maarten will finish bottom of the group, while Turks and Caicos will travel to Guadeloupe on Sunday with promotion to League B still on the table.
