MIAMI, Florida – Reigning Concacaf Nations League champions the United States will be looking to stay unbeaten in Group D of League A on Friday when they take on Grenada at the Kirani James Athletic Stadium in St. George’s, Grenada.
It will be the fifth all-time meeting between the two nations, with the U.S. having won all four previous encounters, including a 5-0 final last June in Austin, Texas, during which FW Jesus Ferreira scored four goals for the North Americans.
At present, the U.S. sit in second place in the group with four points and can clinch a berth in the 2023 Concacaf Gold Cup with at least a draw.
However, a full three points will be the objective of the 2021 CNL winners and they can turn to some of their players who starred recently at the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 for inspiration. That includes the likes of MF Christian Pulisic, who has two career CNL goals and MF Weston McKennie, with four goals and three assists in the CNL.
The Spice Boys have plenty of ways to hurt opponents as well, namely FW Jamal Charles, who has seven career CNL goals, good for fourth on the all-time CNL scoring list.
They are also strong in the back with GK Jason Belfon, who has 23 career CNL saves and will be required to deliver a strong performance against the reigning champions.
Friday will serve as Grenada’s group stage finale and a sizable win would keep them in the mix for a spot in the 2023 Gold Cup group stage.
