Weston winner vs. Guadeloupe keeps Antigua & Barbuda rolling

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – In the second match of the day at Warner Park, Guadeloupe suffered
their first ever Concacaf Nations League defeat, falling 1-0 at the hands of Antigua and Barbuda
in Group A of League B.

Les Gwada Boys had previously won all five Nations League matches since the competition’s
inception.

The best chance of the early going came in the 15th minute from Guadeloupe’s Nathanael Saintini, who made a sharp cut to his left foot and blasted the ball towards goal, only to be
parried away by Antigua and Barbuda GK Nick Townsend.

Saintini later found himself free in the penalty area after a nifty give-and-go play in the 29th minute, but skied the finish.

Meanwhile, Antigua and Barbuda managed only a few long-range efforts in the first half. Guadeloupe controlled the early stages of the second half and looked almost certain to score, but an Antigua and Barbuda long ball over the top saw Myles Weston put the Benna Boys in
front after 55 minutes.

Though Les Gwada Boys had plenty of chances to grab a goal of their own, Townsend and the Antigua defense did well to keep them off the board and catapult themselves into the driver’s
seat in the group.

Antigua and Barbuda will remain in Basseterre for their next match against Cuba, while Guadeloupe travel to Saint Lucia for a clash with Barbados.
