ROSEAU, Dominica – Suriname collected a 2-1 away win at Dominica to open Group C of League B in Concacaf Nations League action at the Windsor Park - Sport Stadium in Roseau, Dominica.
The visitors opened the scoring in the seventh minute when midfielders Roscello Vlijter and Brian Elshot connected to find 19-year-old forward Gleofilo Vlijter inside the box.
Anfernee Frederick then tied things up for the home side with a strike from left field in the 23rd minute. The goal would be the only shot of the first half for Dominica.
Julian Wade, Dominica’s top scorer in qualifying, got more of the ball in the second half but could not generate a goal before he was subbed out for Audel Laville in the 62nd minute.
Suriname had the potential game-winner in the 74th minute, but Eduard Sergino’s header in the box was denied by the woodwork.
The game-winner did arrive, eventually, by way of Vlijter in the 91st minute – giving the full three points and the momentary group lead to Suriname.
Dominica will travel to face Saint Vincent and the Grenadines on Sunday, while Suriname will host Nicaragua later that day to conclude September matches in the group.
