BRIDGETOWN, Barbados – Women’s football in Barbados received a boost Tuesday, when FIFA opened a Women’s Grassroots course at the Garfield Sobers Gymnasium. The program, which runs through April 18, is being conducted by former Mexico international Andrea Rodebaugh for 31 participants (29 women and two men).
The women’s grassroots curriculum is geared towards the coaching of girls between from 6-12 years old and focuses on the fundamentals of football, including injury prevention, nutrition and physical fitness.
“To the participants I welcome you to the first women’s coaching course specifically directed towards grassroots,” Barbados Football Association’s Senior Vice President, Captain Al Walcott, in his opening remarks. “We are pleased to see so many women willingly came forward to facilitate the course, which is a good indication for the way forward in women’s football in order to take it to a higher level.
“Since coming into the office the executive showed its commitment to women’s football and started with an assessment thus allowing us to have this course.”
