MIAMI, Florida – Canadian Women’s National Team Goalkeeper Stephanie Labbe has been named as one of three finalists for The Best FIFA Women’s GK Award for 2021.

The 35-year-old Alberta native was an anchor in net for Canada, who earned their first ever Gold Medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Labbe made two saves in a 3-2 penalty shootout win over Sweden to secure the Gold Medal following a 1-1 draw between the two sides.

The Paris Saint-Germain shot-stopper delivered similar heroics in Canada’s quarterfinal, a 4-3 shootout win over Brazil after a 0-0 draw. Labbe made a pair of stops in the spot kicks to keep her team alive in the tournament.

Labbe’s Olympic performance serves as the defining moment for a player that has long been an important piece of Canada’s success at the international level, with a total of 43 clean sheets in 85 appearances for her country.

Joining Labbe on the shortlist for the award are Germany’s Ann-Katrin Berger and Chile’s Christine Endler.

The winners of The Best FIFA Awards will be announced on January 17 in Zurich, Switzerland.
