Concacaf Nations League November window finales head up week

Published on

MIAMI, Florida – The final matches of the 2023-24 Concacaf Nations League November window headline the week in Concacaf, along with the participation of United States and Mexico in the 2023 FIFA Under-17 Men’s World Cup in Indonesia.

League A

This Monday and Tuesday will determine the four teams who advance from the quarterfinals of League A of the 2023-24 Concacaf Nations League to the 2023-24 Concacaf Nations League Finals and who also qualifies for the CONMEBOL Copa America 2024.

The eight quarterfinalists will take to the field for their second leg matches, beginning with Trinidad and Tobago hosting the United States at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Port of Spain on Monday. The U.S., who are the two-time reigning CNL champions, hold a 3-0 advantage on aggregate after their home victory in the first leg on Thursday courtesy of goals from Ricardo Pepi, Antonee Robinson and Gio Reyna.

Panama return home on Tuesday to the Estadio Rommel Fernandez in Panama City with a comfortable 3-0 advantage after their impressive triumph over Costa Rica in Costa Rica on goals from Michael Murillo, Jose Fajardo and Cecilio Waterman. Panama will be seeking their second straight qualification for the CNL Finals.

Tuesday will see 2022-23 CNL runners-up Canada welcome in Jamaica for their second leg match at BMO Field in Toronto. The two teams met in Jamaica on Saturday morning in the first leg in which the Canadians emerged with a 2-1 victory on goals from Jonathan David and Stephen Eustaquio.

The League A quarterfinals will then wrap up with Mexico on home soil against Honduras at the Estadio Azteca in Mexico City. Following the 2-0 victory for the Hondurans in the first leg this past Friday on goals from Antony Lozano and Bryan Rochez, Mexico will look to mount a comeback in front of their home fans.

League B

The battle for promotion in League B continues with Groups C and D both decided on Tuesday.

Only two points separate the four teams in Group C, giving all four a shot at promotion going into the final matchday. Leading the pack with eight points is Bermuda, who can secure the group win and promotion with a victory versus second-place French Guiana (7 points). Should those two teams play to a draw, though, that will open the door for either Belize or Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. Those two sides meet with Belize on seven points and Vincy Heat on six.

The promotion puzzle is a little more straightforward in Group D, as Guyana only require a draw against Antigua and Barbuda to punch their ticket to League A. Puerto Rico, who are currently three points back, will try to keep the heat on with a win against Bahamas.

The other two groups were decided over the weekend, with Guadeloupe capturing Group A and Nicaragua winning Group B.

League C

Group A will be settled on Tuesday when Bonaire play host to Saint Martin. Bonaire are three points back and can pull level on points with a victory, but Saint Martin own an 11-goal advantage on goal difference and will fancy their chances of securing the necessary result to win the group and earn promotion to League B.

Monday will be a celebratory day for Aruba after they clinched first place in Group B to earn promotion to League B with a 4-1 victory at United States Virgin Islands last Thursday. Aruba will have a chance to cap the festivities in front of their home fans when they meet Cayman Islands.

Dominica will also have a chance to celebrate a group win and promotion to League B when they face Turks and Caicos Islands on Monday to round out Group C. Dominica edged British Virgin Islands 2-1 on Thursday to claim first-place in the group and to secure a ticket to League B.

The window will also determine the fourth team from League C that is promoted to League B as the best-ranked second-place team.

FIFA Under-17 Men’s World Cup

The 2023 FIFA Under-17 Men’s World Cup in Indonesia continues with the knockout stage for the United States and Mexico on Tuesday.

After their second-place finish in Group E, the U.S. have advanced to the Round of 16 where they will face Germany. Nimfasha Berchimas leads the U.S. with three goals in the tournament.

Mexico’s dramatic 4-0 win over New Zealand in their group stage finale earned them a second-place finish in Group F and a date with Mali in the Round of 16. 2023 Concacaf Men’s Under-17 Championship Top Scorer Stephano Carrillo has three goals for El Tricolor.
