Concacaf has now reviewed the official reports from security and match officials following the CNL Semifinal between Mexico and the United States, which include details of the following challenging safety and security incidents during the game:
- Several negative incidents on the field resulted in four red cards and nine yellow cards being awarded to players.
- Aggressive verbal behavior from players towards coaching staff.
- Multiple fan behavior issues and projectiles thrown onto the field of play.
Concacaf’s first priority is always the safety of all participants involved in its competitions. Due to these serious safety and security matters, the referee ended the match. The result stands as a 3-0 win for the United States.
Additionally, Concacaf strongly condemns the discriminatory chanting by some fans during last night’s match, which led to the activation of its anti-discrimination protocols. The chant has no place in our sport. The Confederation will continue to promote its What’s Wrong Is Wrong anti-discrimination campaign, and work with stakeholders, to urge all fans to support their team positively and to show respect to all participants in the game.
