TOKYO, Japan – Mexico will get a second crack at Japan in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics when the two nations battle for the Bronze Medal in Friday’s Bronze Medal match at Saitama Stadium 2002 in Saitama, Japan.

El Tricolor squared off against Japan in a group stage affair that went Japan’s way, 2-1. However, Mexico will still fancy their chances of earning a second-ever medal to cap another excellent Olympic performance.

Mexico are coming off a penalty shootout defeat to Brazil following a 0-0 draw in which the 2020 Concacaf Men’s Olympic Qualifying Championship winners showed plenty of fight and spirit.

El Tricolor have also been very good on the attacking end in the tournament, with 14 goals scored in their five previous matches.

The contributions have come from many different players, including FWs Henry Martin and Sebastian Cordova, who each have three goals, plus 2020 CMOQ Golden Ball winner Alexis Vega, who has two goals and has been at his playmaking best throughout.

Japan have no shortage of weapons themselves and Takefusa Kubo already has a goal against Mexico in the tournament, having scored the opener in Japan’s group stage victory.

But the strength of the Japanese team has been in the back, with a defense that has conceded just two goals in their five games. It should provide another stiff challenge for Mexico’s potent attack.
