MANCHESTER, England -- Manchester United announced Monday that Mexico international Javier Hernandez has joined Real Madrid on loan for the remainder of the 2014/15 season.
The current European champion reserved the first option to purchase the forward at the end of the initial agreement.
“I’m delighted and completely grateful to the entire institution of Real Madrid for having made the effort and I’ll give it my all,” said Hernandez, 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup’s Most Valuable Player. “There is no player in the world who can say they wouldn’t like to wear this shirt or be at this club.
“For me it is a dream come true.”
Hernandez, who joined United in 2010 from Guadalajara, scored 59 goals in 154 appearances for the Reds and won two Premier League titles.
He follows in the footsteps of Mexican football legend Hugo Sanchez, who enjoyed a stellar career at Real Madrid from 1985 to 1992.
