MEXICO CITY – The Mexican Football Federation announced Friday that Carlos Salcido has retired from international football and will not join the squad for a pair of friendlies in the United States next month.
After consulting with family members, Salcido informed head coach Miguel Herrera of his decision to decline the latest call-up and step away from international football.
The 34-year-old defender/midfielder played in 121 matches and scored 10 goals for the Tricolor, debuting in a 3-1 World Cup Qualifying win at Trinidad & Tobago on September 8, 2004.
Salcido appeared in three FIFA World Cups (2006, 2010, 2014), two FIFA Confederations Cups (2005, 2013) and three CONCACAF Gold Cups (2005, 2007, 2011). He won the Gold Cup and the Olympic Football Tournament in 2011 and 2012, respectively.
