TOKYO, Japan Momentum will be on Mexico’s side when they face Japan in their second match of Group A of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics on Sunday at Tokyo Stadium in Tokyo.

El Tricolor delivered a superb display in their opening match against France, picking apart the French defense in the second half with a dizzying display of attacking football that resulted in a 4-1.

2020 Concacaf Men’s Olympic Qualifying Championship Golden Ball and Golden Boot winners Alexis Vega and Sebastian Cordova, respectively, each found the back of the net, as did the ever-dangerous Uriel Antuna.

Antuna continued his impressive run of scoring goals while playing with either the Mexican Senior National Team or the Mexico Olympic Team. In 18 official matches at the senior or Olympic level for Mexico, Antuna now has a whopping 10 goals.

The playmaking of Diego Lainez as played a key role in Mexico’s opening victory, as it was the Real Betis man who set the table for Vega’s opener with a brilliant move and inch-perfect cross.

Now, Mexico will take aim a Japan side that emerged with three points as well in their opener, as they topped South Africa, 1-0.

Like Mexico, the Japanese are brimming with talent. Real Madrid winger Takefusa Kubo notched the lone goal for Japan in their opening win and was a danger man throughout.

Meanwhile, in the back, Japan are very solid and led by veteran center back Maya Yoshida, who spent eight seasons at Premier League club Southampton before moving to Serie A giants Fiorentina last summer.

A win over the tournament hosts would give Mexico a very big boost in their quest for a second Gold Medal
