MIAMI, Florida – A full week of Concacaf action is highlighted by the start of the 2024 Champions Cup and the final week of action in the 2024 Concacaf Women’s Under-17 Championship.
Champions Cup
The 2024 Concacaf Champions Cup kicks off this week beginning with five first leg matches in Round One.
On Tuesday, a pair of former Concacaf champions will start the tournament, as Comunicaciones of Guatemala host five-time winners Monterrey, while in the nightcap, seven-time Concacaf champions Club America travel to Nicaragua to face 2023 Concacaf Central American Cup runners-up Real Esteli.
That will be followed by a tripleheader of action on Wednesday, beginning with Costa Rican side Herediano playing host to two-time Concacaf champions Toluca.
2024 Concacaf Champions Cup: All You Need To Know
The middle match of the evening pits Canadian Premier League champions Forge FC playing in their second Champions Cup at home against 2018 champions Chivas.
The night will then conclude with a rematch of the 2016-17 Champions Cup semifinal between the Vancouver Whitecaps and 2020 champions Tigres, with Vancouver hosting the first leg.
Women’s Under-17 Championship
The 2024 Concacaf Women’s Under-17 Championship will enter its second week of action with four teams vying for the title.
Already through to the semifinals from Group A are Mexico and Haiti, who square off on Monday to decide the group winner. In Group B, the United States and Canada have already clinched their semifinal spots and will meet on Tuesday to determine the first-place finisher in their group.
Depending on the results of the final matchdays in the two groups, the four teams will be paired in the semifinals on Friday, with the winners advancing to Sunday’s Final.
Several players have had breakout performances thus far, including Haiti’s Lourdjina Etienne, who leads the tournament in scoring with six goals. Kennedy Fuller of the U.S. with five goals has been another one to watch, as has been Annabelle Chukwu of Canada, who has tallied four goals.
