MIAMI, Florida – It is another busy week in the Concacaf region with the start of the 2024 Concacaf W Gold Cup group stage, plus six more Round One series in the 2024 Concacaf Champions Cup, the kick-off of 2024 Concacaf Men’s Under-20 Championship Qualifying and Mexico’s finale in the 2024 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup.

W Gold Cup

The group stage of the 2024 W Gold Cup gets started on Tuesday in Group A at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California, with Mexico and Argentina squaring off, followed by reigning Concacaf W Championship winners the United States taking on the Dominican Republic. The Dominican Republic reached this phase of the tournament thanks to their 1-0 victory against Guyana in Saturday’s Prelims.

The teams in Group A will then return to action on Friday, with Mexico facing Dominican Republic and the U.S. against Argentina.

On Wednesday, the scene will shift to Snapdragon Stadium in San Diego, California, where Group B will get underway. 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup debutants Panama face Colombia, while in the nightcap it will be Brazil against Puerto Rico. Buoyed by a stellar performance from GK Sydney Martinez, the Boricuas defeated 2023 Women’s World Cup side Haiti 1-0 to reach the group stage.

The four teams from Group B will be back on Saturday, as Concacaf sides Puerto Rico and Panama meet, while Brazil take on Colombia.

Group C will kick off on Thursday at Shell Energy Stadium in Houston, Texas, beginning with Costa Rica going up against Paraguay and Prelims winners El Salvador colliding with Canada. Thanks to a hat-trick from Brenda Ceren, El Salvador topped Guatemala 3-1 in the Prelims to punch their group stage ticket.

The teams in Group C will then play their second matches of the group stage on Sunday, as Paraguay face Canada, while Costa Rica meet El Salvador in an all-Central American affair.

Champions Cup

The remaining six match-ups in Round One of the 2024 Concacaf Champions Cup get started this week with their respective first leg matches, starting off on Tuesday in an all-Major League Soccer (MLS) affair between debutants St. Louis City SC and the Houston Dynamo in St. Louis. The nightcap will see a rematch of a 2021 Champions Cup Round of 16 tie, as Costa Rican giants Deportivo Saprissa host the Philadelphia union.

On Wednesday it will be Panamanian side CA Independiente welcoming in the New England Revolution with CAI hoping to make it three straight wins against MLS opposition in home Champions Cup matches. That will be followed by Orlando City SC making the trip to British Columbia to take on Canadian Premier League side and Champions Cup debutants Cavalry.

The week will then close on Thursday with two teams making their Champions Cup debut, as Moca FC of the Dominican Republic host Nashville SC. The second match of the evening pits another Caribbean vs. MLS affair, as Cavalier of Jamaica host FC Cincinnati.

Men’s Under-20 Qualifying

2024 Concacaf Men’s Under-20 Championship Qualifying starts on Friday with 27 teams divided into three groups of five teams and three groups of four teams. The winners of each group will advance to the 2024 Concacaf Men’s Under-20 Championship to be held later this summer.

Beach Soccer World Cup

Mexico will wrap up their participation in the 2024 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup in the United Arab Emirates on Tuesday in Dubai when they take on Brazil.

Mexico are eliminated from advancing to the knockout stage of the tournament, however a golden opportunity looms to finish on a high note against the five-time Beach Soccer World Cup winners from CONMEBOL.
