Aruba and Costa Rica get first wins of Girls U-15 Championship

MIAMI – The first day of the 2024 Concacaf Girls' U-15 Championship is in the books, with the teams across the three leagues delivering great performances to clinch their first wins and advance in the group stage.

League A: Costa Rica, USA start strong

League A hosts Costa Rica shined in their first match at home, taking a 9-nil win over Haiti. Nubia Medina (48’, 70’) and Lucia Paniagua (8’, 38’) each scored a brace to give their team the victory.

Defending champions USA started their quest for another championship with an 11-nil win over Jamaica. Carolina Reyna was the leader in the attack, scoring four goals in the 5’, 25’, 27’, and 35’+2, to help her team get the first three points.

League B: Trinidad and Tobago earn first point

Trinidad and Tobago, hosts of League B, did not concede any goals to clinch its first point of the competition. Trinidad High Performance, a club team from the host country, also began the competition with a point.

The Dominican Republic earned its first victory of the tournament thanks to the services of Emelie Asenjo, who scored in the 6’ and the 35' +1, to close the first half with a brace.

League C: Aruba wins with hat-trick performance 

League C host nation Aruba got its first win thanks in part to a Zyana Rogers hat-trick.

Turks and Caicos Islands and Bonaire delivered one of the exciting encounters of the day. Geraldine Alberto opened the scoring for Bonaire in the 15’ before Edna Jeanty answered with a brace (32’, 35’) to close the first half.

Matchday two awaits

League A

After a great start and securing three points each, hosts Costa Rica will face defending champions United States to start matchday two in Alajuela. Puerto Rico will try to bounce back after their loss facing Mexico, who will try to extend its positive start with another victory. Jamaica and Haiti will try to get their first points of their respective campaigns.

League B 
Guatemala and US Virgin Islands will open League B activities on Tuesday. Hosts Trinidad & Tobago will seek its first win of the tournament when it takes the pitch against Curaçao. Belize will face Cuba, who secured its first win with six goals in its first match. 

League C 

Guadeloupe and Turks & Caicos Islands, winners in their first matches, will play for back-to-back wins to start League C activities. With the home crowd behind them, Aruba will look to its second win when it meets French Guiana, who will also be looking for another three points to add to their count.
