Canada, Guatemala earn big wins on Day 5 at CBU15 Championship

BRADENTON, Florida – The knockout stage began for teams in Division 1 while all groups were in action from Division 2 and Division 3 on a busy Day 5 at the 2019 Concacaf Boys’ Under-15 Championship.

 

Division 1

Canada had a big day as it eliminated reigning champion Mexico 2-0. Hugo-hilaire Mbongue scored in the 33’, followed by a goal from Jean-aniel Assi in the 70+3’ to win it for the Canadians.

There was also a massive comeback with Guatemala rallying from two goals down to defeat Trinidad and Tobago 4-2. A goal in 1’ from Ja-shawn Thomas and an Anderson Molina own goal in the 39’ had the Soca Warriors thinking victory, but the Chapines mounted a ferocious comeback through goals from Chrisphian Estrada (58’, 64’), Joshua Trigueno (61’) and Anderson Molina (69’).

Invitees Portugal rolled to another victory in a 7-0 final over Haiti. Herculano Bucancil Nabian had a brace (29’, 51’) while Joao Dinis Vilela (5’), Lucas Rodrigues (6’), Antonio Teixeira (17’), Marco Sousa (20’) and Ricardo Nobrega (25’) added scores.

Osvaldo Cisneros was the hero of the day for the United States in its 2-0 win over Costa Rica. Cisneros found the back of the net in the 11’ and 47’ for the win.

Suriname also marched forward with a 2-0 win against Barbados, as Joel Matabadal (41’) and Ravello Zijler (67’) found the back of the net.

It was another strong performance for Panama, who defeated fellow Central Americans El Salvador 5-0. Reymundo Williams had a brace (16’, 70+2’), while Felix De Gracia (22’), Ricardo Gorday (26’) and Adan Henricks (61’) scored for the Canaleros.

Guadeloupe has also advanced thanks to Bryce Seymour’s goal in the 28’ in a 1-0 win over Curacao.

Invited sides Slovenia and Israel also tangled and fought to a 0-0 draw before Slovenia emerged with a 4-1 penalty shootout victory.

 

Division 2

Group E

Guyana looked very solid as it posted a 2-0 win over Cayman Islands courtesy of goals from Samuel Garnett (41’) and Rajan Ramdeholl (61’), while Nicaragua powered past the Bahamas 4-0 with goals from Fabrizio Velasquez (10’), Cristhian Herrera (25’), Ocnarpz Rodriguez (42’) and Darwin Corrales (58’).

 

Group F

A strong defensive performance, combined with Levy Sinnan’s 9’ goal, earned Martinique the three points against the Dominican Republic, while GKs Ahiezer Santiago of Puerto Rico and Ricklye Telemaque of Grenada were the stars in the 0-0 draw between those two sides.

 

Group G

A strong second half comeback saw French Guiana down Saint Kitts and Nevis. Jahquan Maynard’s goal in the 3’ had Saint Kitts and Nevis on top, only for Nicolas Baybaud (37’) and Rowan Satiman (48’) to earn the win for French Guiana. In the group’s other game, goals from Keegan Caull (37’) and Steven Octave (70+1’) helped Saint Lucia top Belize 2-1.Allison Torres (48’) scored for Belize.

 

Group H

Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and Bermuda played to an exciting 2-2 draw. Oryan Velox (50’, 61’) bagged a brace for Vincy Heat, while a Sincere Hall score (34’) and Raysean Matthias own goal (43’) provided the scoring for Bermuda.

Antigua and Barbuda looked a confident side as it took down Aruba 5-0, with goals from Tyrique Thwaites (12’), Tarek Charles (35’), Dajun Barthley (59’) and Joylan Sinclair (61’, 65’).

 

Division 3

Group I

Bonaire enjoyed a successful day with a 1-0 win over Anguilla thanks to a goal in the 57’ from Jandino Frans, while Sint Maarten edged U.S. Virgin Islands by the same 1-0 scoreline on the strength of Ajoni Malik Rumnit’s 61’ goal.

 

Group J 

It was another prolific day in front of goal for the British Virgin Islands, who topped Saint Martin 6-1. Matthew Stephenson had a brace (11’, 29’), while Azarni Callwood (7’), Luka Chalwell (33’), Malakai Stanners (34’) and Oliver Brown (47’) chipped in with goals. Calixio Flanders scored for Saint Martin in the 46’. 

In the group’s other game, Dominica rallied from a goal down to top Montserrat 2-1. Adriel Lawrence (40’) and Davone George (61’) scored for Dominica, while Jaakeem Martin (15’) tallied for Montserrat.
