BRADENTON, Florida – Saint Lucia and British Virgin Islands took home the Division 2 and Division 3 crowns, respectively, on Day 7 at the 2019 Concacaf Boys’ Under-15 Championship.
Division 2
Saint Lucia is the champion of Division 2 after using a late push to defeat Puerto Rico 3-1. A very even first half was played out by the two sides, with Daneo Caroo giving Saint Lucia a lead in the 4’, which Puerto Rico answered in the 15’ through Jensen Liquet Cruz. However, the final 10 minutes belonged to Saint Lucia and a brace from Dahmanii Berthier (62’, 70+3’) won the title.
Division 3
British Virgin Islands concluded its tournament in impressive fashion with a 7-0 victory over Sint Maarten to win the Division 3 title. Matthew Stephenson got things going with a goal in the 14’, followed by Oliver Brown (25’), Luka Chalwell (28’) and a second score for Brown (31’). British Virgin Islands remained in control in the second half and goals from Malakai Stanners (49’), Sheldon Toney (51’) and Milton Creque (69’) completed the performance.
In other Division 3 action, U.S. Virgin Islands topped Montserrat 2-1. Selah Mathurin (6’) and Amir Ottley (30’) scored for USVI, while Jaakeem Martin (70+2’) tallied for Montserrat.
The stars of the day were the two goalkeepers in Bonaire’s 0-0 draw with Grenada. Bonaire stopper Sifmar Sint Jago and Grenada counterpart Lenell Darrouz each made a number of top saves.
It was the same story in the match between Anguilla and Turks and Caicos Islands with Anguilla GK Darian Carty and Turks and Caicos Islands GK George Ellis registering a clean sheet.
Also on the docket was a friendly match between Little Haiti FC and Saint Martin, with Saint Martin narrowly winning 4-3 against the invited team from South Florida.
Division 1
In the semifinal match-ups in Division 1, visiting Portugal parlayed a strong second half to top the United States 3-0. Herculano Bucancil (58’), Ricardo Nobrega (64’) and Lucas Rodriguez (68’) scored for the Portuguese.
In the Division 1 Final, Portugal will face Slovenia, who edged past Canada 2-1 in extra time in the other semifinal. Jean-aniel Assi had Canada in dreamland by scoring just 10 minutes from full-time in the 60’, only for Slovenia to answer with an equalizer two minutes later in the 62’ through Enej Marsetic. In extra time, Slovenia would strike for the winner in the 89’, with Tom Kljun scoring the decisive goal.
