BRASILIA, Brazil Canada fell to hosts Brazil 4-1 in their opening match of Group A of the 2019 FIFA Under-17 World Cup on Saturday at the Estadio Bezerrao in Brasilia.

The home side enjoyed a strong start and took a 2-0 lead into halftime on the strength of goals from Peglow (17’), who swept in a right-footed shot, and an own goal from Canada DF Kobe Franklin (45+1’) on a deep cross into the Canadian area.

Peglow picked up where he left off to start the second half and notched his brace in the 46’ with another right-footed finish to extend the Brazil lead to 3-0.

Veron increased the Brazilians’ advantage to 4-0 in the 54’ when Canada failed to clear their lines and the attacker pounced for the goal.

Canada showed plenty of fight though and battled until the end. They were richly rewarded for their efforts in the 86’ when substitute Jacen Russell-Rowe came off the bench and scored on a shot that deflected off a defender and into goal to complete the 4-1 scoreline.
