Haiti topped by France in tough battle

GOIANIA, Brazil Haiti’s 2019 FIFA Under-17 World Cup campaign concluded on Saturday with a late 2-0 defeat to France in Group C action at the Estadio da Serrinha in Goiania, Brazil.

A competitive first half in which both teams had really good opportunities yielded a scoreless first 45 minutes.

Haiti GK Judler Delva was fantastic, making a number of saves on French dangerman Enzo Millot to keep Haiti in the mix until the latter stages of the second stanza.

France was finally able to break through against the Haitian resistance in the 78’ when Georgino Rutter confidently fired in a left-footed shot from the penalty spot to give France a 1-0 lead.

Rutter was hungry for more and a mere minute later in the 79’ he tacked on the second of the night for the French by taking a cross from the right and smacking in a header to round out the 2-0 scoreline.
