CHILLAN, Chile – Mexico netted once in each half to earn a 2-0 win over Argentina in the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup opener for both on Sunday at the Estadio Municipal de Chillan Nelson Oyarzún Arenas.

In the day’s other Group C game, Germany defeated Australia, 4-1.

Kevin Magaña, who scored the first goal of the 2015 CONCACAF Under-17 Championship final in a 3-0 defeat of Honduras, gave the Tricolor champion a lead in the 10th minute. After receiving Claudio Zamudio’s pass 35-yards from the Argentinean goal, the 17-year-old midfielder dribbled unimpeded, before releasing a right-footed shot from just inside the box that beat goalkeeper Marcos Peano at the left post.

The Tricolor, which had nearly 60% of the possession for the game, doubled its lead in the 77th minute with Francisco Venegas converting a penalty kick after Peano took down Eduardo Aguirre in the left side of the box.

Group C play resumes on Wednesday with Mexico taking on Australia and Argentina squaring off against Germany.
