MIAMI, Florida Mexico are through to their fifth straight Concacaf Men’s Under-17 Championship Final after posting a 5-0 victory versus Panama in the semifinals of the 2023 CMU17 in Guatemala on Friday at the Estadio Doroteo Guamuch Flores in Guatemala City.

Mexico advance to Sunday’s Final where they will attempt to claim their fifth straight crown and ninth overall.

Like he has all tournament long, Stephano Carrillo played a pivotal role in El Tricolor’s success on Friday by scoring the opening goal in the 37’ on a sweeping finish after a pass from Fidel Barajas for a 1-0 Mexico lead. It was Carrillo’s seventh goal of the tournament, tops among all players.

The lead was then doubled to 2-0 in the 58’ when a Brandon Lomeli cross was deflected into the Panama net by Panama DF Martin Krug.

Mexico kept their foot on the gas and extended it to 3-0 in the 67’ thanks to the playmaking of Barajas and the finishing ability of Jose Urias. For Barajas, it was his second assist of the game and fifth of the tournament, while Urias tallied his fifth goal of the CMU17.

Lomeli then added his name to the scoresheet in the 78’ with a powerful right-footed finish to stretch the Mexico advantage to 4-0.

The reigning champions then rounded out the celebratory day with their fifth and final goal in the 90+1’ through Jose Suarez, who found the corner of net to complete the 5-0 scoreline.
