BRADENTON, Florida – Puerto Rico has advanced to the 2019 Concacaf Under-17 Championship after defeating Anguilla 8-0 in the final matchday of Group D of CU17 Qualifying.
The result gave the Boricuas a first-place finish with seven points, one ahead of second place Martinique, who edged Saint Kitts and Nevis.
Six different scorers found the back of the net for Puerto Rico, including Diego Alejandro Zayas Espinal (3’), Yavieric Ortiz Fuentes (26’), Agustin Ortega (27’, 65’), Jose Luis Rivera (32’), Allan Yael Agosto Pomales (58’) and Andres Javier Ramos Baez (61’, 68’).
The clean sheet victory was the third clean sheet result for Puerto Rico in three CU17 Qualifying matches.
In the day’s other action, a Mathis Priam goal in the 79’ was enough to earn the three points for Martinique against Saint Kitts and Nevis.
Note: After round-robin play, the top three finishers in each of the groups will qualify for the knockout stage, joining the four group winners of the Qualification Stage in the Round of 16.
The knockout stage of the competition will be played in its entirety in a single match elimination format, with the semifinalists automatically qualifying for the FIFA U-17 World Cup.
