MIAMI, Florida – The United States and Mexico both exited the 2023 FIFA Under-17 Men’s World Cup in Indonesia on Tuesday with defeats in the Round of 16.
The U.S. fell 3-2 to Germany at the Si Jalak Harupat Stadium in Bandung.
Charles Herrmann struck in the 14’ to give Germany a 1-0 lead, but the U.S. pulled level in the 24’ as an initial clearance from the German defense fell to Taha Habroune, who fired into net to make it 1-1.
Back came Germany with Max Moerstedt regaining their lead at 2-1 in the 34’, which held until the final 10 minutes.
The U.S. got back on even terms 2-2 through David Vazquez’s free kick that skidded through a sea of defenders and into net in the 80’.
However, the victory belonged to Germany, as Bilal Yalcinkaya tallied the winning goal in the 87’ for the 3-2 final.

Mexico’s campaign came to an end with a 5-0 loss Mali at the Gelora Bung Tomo Stadium in Surabaya.
Mahamoud Barry scored in the 9’ and 13’, followed by Ibrahim Diarra in the 15’ and Ibrahim Kanate in the 37’ to give Mali a 4-0 halftime lead. Ange Martian Tia’s goal in the 50’ completed the 5-0 scoreline.
