MIAMI, Florida – Costa Rica, Haiti and Puerto Rico have advanced to the 2024 Concacaf Women’s Under-17 Championship after winning their respective Qualifying groups on Tuesday.
At the FIFA Proyecto Goal in San Jose, Costa Rica, the Ticas captured Group C thanks to a 5-1 victory over Guatemala.
Goals from Brigitte Monge in the 3’ and Brittany Castrillo in the 8’ gave Costa Rica an early 2-0 advantage. Tiara Ruiz (47’) and Tanisha Fonseca (58’) tacked on another two before Guatemala pulled one back in the 68’ through Paola Alvarez. But the day belonged to Costa Rica, who rounded out the 5-1 final with a Lucia Paniagua score in the 87’.
Haiti are winners of Group B after defeating Cuba 6-0 at the Estadio Panamericano in San Cristobal, Dominican Republic.
Lourdjina Etienne (32’, 66’) and Pierreline Nazon (36’, 71’) each bagged braces, while Dalanchy Pierre (26’) and Derline Saindate (61’) also found the back of the net.
Puerto Rico secured the top spot in Group D with a narrow 2-1 win versus Honduras at the Estadio Olimpico Felix Sanchez in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
Susana Roberts opened the scoring for the Boricuas in the 7’ and then the lead was doubled to 2-0 in the 47’ through Lauryn Smith.
Honduras pulled a goal back in the 71’ courtesy of Allanys Santos, but in the end the three points and first place finished belonged to Puerto Rico.
It was also a good day in Group D for Nicaragua, who defeated US Virgin Islands 10-0 at the Estadio Olimpico Felix Sanchez.
Leading the way was Perla Garache with four goals (12’, 30’, 38’, 64’), plus a hat trick from Aneth Lopez (1’, 41’, 61’) and goals from Emma Quintanilla (50’), Jesneyling Mendez (66’) and Veronica Navarrete (69’).
