MIAMI, Florida – The group stage of the 2022 Concacaf Women’s Under-17 Championship in the Dominican Republic will come to a close on Thursday with the finales in Group F and Group H on the docket.
A place in the Round of 16 from Group F will be at stake when host nation Dominican Republic take on Bermuda at the Estadio Olimpico Felix Sanchez in Santo Domingo.
Neither side has earned a result through the first two matches, making Thursday’s contest a winner-take-all affair. In the event of a draw, the Dominican Republic own the tiebreaker based on goals scored, so Bermuda will be on the hunt for all three points.
The other game in Group F will pit Canada against Jamaica at the Estadio Panamericano in San Cristobal. First place in the group is there for the taking with a win for either side and no doubt that Canada’s Rosa Maalouf will be keen to add to her CWU17 tally of six goals thus far.
There is still a lot to play for in Group H, beginning with El Salvador facing Cuba at the Estadio Panamericano.
The Cuscatlecas have punched their ticket to the Round of 16, but Cuba still have work to do to reach the knockout stage after collecting their first ever CWU17 win on Tuesday in a 2-0 final versus Haiti.
Despite two losses to start the tournament, Guatemala are still alive to advance from Group H and can give themselves a chance with a win against Haiti at the Estadio Olimpico Felix Sanchez.
The Chapines are -8 on goal difference, however, a four-goal win against Haiti would be enough to leapfrog the Caribbean side in the standings.
