Hodelin, Ochoa, Tsakiris, lead Concacaf Men's U-20 Championship Best XI

MIAMI — The 2024 Concacaf Men's U-20 Championship delivered unforgettable moments of teamwork and individual brilliance, culminating with Mexico winning its fourteenth trophy in the grand finale.

From the group stage to the Final, several players contributed to their club’s success throughout each stage.

Here is a look at the 2024 Concacaf Men's U-20 Championship Best XI:

Goalkeeper 

Yurdy Hodelin, Cuba – Winner of the Best Goalkeeper Award, Hodelin led the competition with 23 saves. He was also a key player in the quarterfinal, making five saves in extra time to help Cuba secure a berth in the FIFA U-20 World Cup.

Defenders

Karel Pérez, Cuba – With 22 steals and 8 clearances, Pérez was one of the dominant defenders in the competition. He scored in Cuba’s last group-stage match to secure a place in the knockout round. Pérez also hit the first spot kick in the penalty shootout against Honduras in the quarterfinals, sealing Cuba’s second-ever trip to a FIFA U-20 World Cup.

Anfronit Tatúm, Honduras – A defensive presence with 10 clearances in the tournament, Tatúm also shined offensively with three goals for Honduras, including a goal of the tournament nominee as part of his brace against El Salvador in the group stage.

Diego Ochoa, Mexico – Ochoa provided four steals and five clearances as a starter in all but one match for Mexico. The defender shined with a goal in the semifinal and the championship-winning goal in the 120th minute of the final.

Midfielders

Amaury Morales, Mexico – The assist leader for Mexico with four, Morales provided the service for Ochoa’s match-winning goal in extra time. He also scored on two occasions, including the match-winning goal in the quarterfinals against Costa Rica, on top of providing six steals.

Elías Montiel, Mexico – Montiel was one of Mexico’s anchors in midfield with five steals. He was also provided 12 shots and one assist for the U-20 champions.

Brooklyn Raines, United States – Raines had six steals and three clearances throughout the tournament but took the headlines with a volley goal to place the U.S. in the final.

Nikolas Tsakiris, United States – Winner of the Best Player Award, presented by Scotiabank, Tsakiris was one of the standout players for the U.S. with two goals and two assists. He also provided two steals and nine shots as part of a high-powered USA offense.

Forwards

Santiago López, Canada – With three goals, and two assists, López helped Canada reach the knockout round as one of the top two teams from Group B. He scored the tying goal in the quarterfinals to send the Canadians to extra time against Panama.

Rafael Mosquera, Panama – With three goals and one assist, Mosquera was one of the key elements that helped Panama win in the quarterfinals to secure a spot at the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup. He struck from the penalty spot in the semifinal to tie the match against the eventual finalists, United States.

David Vazquez, United States – Winner of the Top Scorer Award, presented by Aramco, Vazquez started the tournament with a brace in the first three minutes of the U.S. campaign before scoring in the semifinal. He also provided two assists and two steals in the U.S.’ silver medal campaign.
