SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador -- Luis Angel Firpo defeated the El Salvador under-20 national team 3-2 in a well-played friendly on Wednesday.
The U20s rebounded from an error in the first minute, which resulted in a goal for Anel Canales, to take a 2-1 lead into half-time. Jose Villavicencio equalized with a ninth-minute penalty kick and Bryan Perez tallied 12 minutes later. Both scorers play their club football for Firpo.
After the break, the 10-time Salvadoran champion struck twice to secure the victory.
Medardo Guevara, who has two career CONCACAF Champions League goals, evened the score at 2-2 in the 56th minute.
With 10 minutes left in normal time, Ramiro Carballo netted the game-winner with a free kick.
“The important thing is to see the boys that are active with teams play,” said U20 head coach Mauricio Alfaro. “I think the most important thing is to see how they fare, not the results."
"We have set our mind on July, when there will be games to find a ticket for World Cup Qualifying.”
NOTES: Villavicencio was on El Salvador’s roster for the 2013 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Turkey, but did not appear in any games.
