BIELSKO-BIALA, Poland The United States scored a goal in each half to power past Nigeria 2-0 in Group D on Monday night at the Bielsko-Biala Stadium in Biesko-Biala, Poland.

It marks the first three points for the U.S. in the Under-20 World Cup following last Friday’s narrow 2-1 loss to Ukraine.

The U.S. started off strong and by the 18’ it had grabbed a 1-0 lead when Sebastian Soto headed in Alex Mendez’s corner kick for the opening goal.

Nigeria looked to respond and had several cracks at goal, only to be turned away by U.S. GK Brady Scott.

The U.S. came out roaring to start the second half and Soto had his second of the night less than a minute after the re-start with a strong finish off a pass from Chris Gloster to make it 2-0.

Back came Nigeria, but a strong defensive performance from the 2018 Concacaf Under-20 Championship winners helped secure the victory.

The U.S. will wrap up its group stage campaign on Thursday versus Qatar.
