BIELSKO-BIALA, Poland – The United States has advanced to the next round of the 2019 FIFA Under-20 World Cup thanks to a 1-0 victory over Qatar to close out Group D on Thursday night at the Bielsko-Biala Stadium in Biesko-Biala, Poland.
With the win, the U.S. finished the group in second place with a 2W-0D-1L record and will face either France or Mali in the next round.
Thanks to some excellent goalkeeping from David Ochoa, the U.S. retreated to the halftime dressing room with the math still scoreless.
The U.S. then took over in the second half and Timothy Weah was the man to break the deadlock, as he took advantage of a Qatar error in the 76’ and fired into goal for a 1-0 lead that would hold until full-time.
