CALI, Colombia – Costa Rica fell 9-nil against Korea DPR in Group F of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Colombia 2024 on Thursday at Estadio Olimpico Pascual Guerrero in Cali, Colombia.
The first goal for Korea DPR came in the 6’ due to an own goal by Saray Benavides, after the Costa Rica defender was unable to correctly clear the ball.
Chae Un Yong scored the second for the Asian side in the 8’, receiving a left cross in the box to put the ball in the back of the net with a header.
Korea DPR scored the third goal of the evening in the 28’ thanks to a header by Choe Il Son.
Il Son secured her brace with the fourth goal for Korea DPR in the 34’ when goalkeeper and captain Genesis Perez could not keep the ball after stopping a long kick.
Pak Mi Ryong scored her team's fifth goal in the 43’, the third goal in the match, from a header.
Kim Song Gyong started off the second half with the sixth goal for her team in the 49’, converting off a free kick.
Song Gyong was also the author of the seventh goal for Korea DPR in the 55’, making herself present again in the area to complete her brace within six minutes.
Jong Kum added another goal for Korea DPR in the 69’ to extend the lead by eight.
Choe Kang Ryon scored the ninth goal of the match in the 85’, putting the ball in the bottom right corner as Korea DPR qualified for the next round of the U-20 Women’s World Cup.
Costa Rica's next and final game of the group stage will be against Argentina on Sunday at Estadio Metropolitano de Techo in Bogota, Colombia.
