MIAMI, Florida Group F of the 2022 Concacaf Women’s Under-20 Championship in the Dominican Republic continued on Monday at the Estadio Olimpico Felix Sanchez in Santo Domingo, with Mexico punching their ticket to the next round, while Honduras and Panama each earned a precious point.

The day started with Panama and Honduras squaring off and both sides keen to pick up their first points of the tournament.

It was no surprise to see the two Central American rivals engaged in a tight, intense affair and the deadlock would not be broken until the 58’ when Emily Cedeno fired in a left-footed shot to hand Panama a 1-0 lead.

The response from Honduras was almost immediate and came via a set piece, with Larissa Arias rocketing in a right-footed effort in the 62’ to pull the Catrachas level, 1-1.

Wendy Natis came within an inch of giving Panama a late win in second half stoppage time, only to see her header strike the crossbar and eventually be cleared, resulting in a 1-1 final.

The second game of the day saw Mexico top Guyana, 5-0, to earn El Tricolor a berth in the knockout round.

Paola Chavero opened the scoring in the 10’ and was quickly joined on the scoresheet by Maritza Maldonado in the 28’ and Tatiana Flores in the 37’.

Maldonado then bagged her brace scoring in the 56’ before Aylin Avilez capped things in the 78’ to complete the 5-0 scoreline.
