MIAMI.- The field of 11 teams is complete for the 2024/25 Concacaf W Champions Cup, the new annual tournament that matches the best clubs from North America, Central America, and the Caribbean to crown the region’s women’s club champion.
As nations wrapped up their domestic seasons, Alianza FC secured the final spot as the El Salvador 2023/24 Liga Primera Femenina Play-Off Winner. They will face Vancouver Whitecaps FC in the preliminary round, with the winner advancing to the group stage.
The official draw for the 2024/25 Concacaf W Champions Cup will take place on Thursday, June 6. The preliminary round kicks off the tournament in August with the group stage starting shortly after until October to decide who moves on to the final round, contested in May 2025.
Here is the list of teams that will participate in the inaugural Concacaf W Champions Cup:
CANADA
Vancouver Whitecaps
Whitecaps FC have qualified by winning the 2023 League1 Women’s Inter-Provincial Championship. They will enter in the Preliminary Round with experienced players in the Concacaf Women's U-20 national team who qualified for the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup Colombia 2024, such as defender Mya Archibald, defender Clare Logan, midfielder Jeneva Hernández, and forward Jaime Perrault.
COSTA RICA
Alajuelense
Alajuelense have qualified for the 2024/25 Concacaf W Champions Cup as champions of the 2023 Super Copa Unión Femenina de Fútbol. Ten players on the squad were part of Costa Rica’s quarterfinal team in the 2024 Concacaf W Gold Cup including Fabiola Villalobos, Alexa Herrera, and Sheika Scott.
EL SALVADOR
ALIANZA FC
Alianza FC qualified after winning the Liga Primera Femenina in consecutive seasons, forgoing the need for a play-off winner. It is the most successful team in Salvadoran women's football history with eight league titles. Among the notable players, who also participated in the 2024 Concacaf W Gold Cup, are Priscila Ortiz, Irma Hernández, and Nicole Amaya.
JAMAICA
Frazsiers Whip Women FC
The 2022/23 Jamaica Women’s Premier League champions will represent the Caribbean in the 2024/25 Concacaf W Champions Cup. Janeil Mignott, Shaneil Buckley, Kiona Tulloch, Lotoya Duhaney, and Destiny Powell were part of the Jamaica U-17 and U-20 women's national teams, and all participated in the Pan American Games Chile 2023.
MEXICO
Tigres UANL
Tigres UANL has qualified as champions of the Apertura 2023 season. Las Amazonas have become a powerhouse in Mexican women’s soccer with six Liga MX Femenil trophies, the most of any club. FIFA Women’s World Cup champion Jenni Hermoso and Concacaf W Gold Cup Best XI selection Jacqueline Ovalle headline the current squad.
Club America
Finalists of the Apertura 2023 and Clausura 2024 seasons, Club America has assured its place in the next Concacaf W Champions Cup as back-to-back runners-up. Concacaf W Gold Cup Best XI defender Karen Luna and Liga MX Femenil all-time leading scorer Katty Martínez are some of the notable players for Las Aguilas.
Rayadas
Rayadas qualified as champions of the Clausura 2024. Captain Rebeca Bernal was a Concacaf W Gold Cup Best XI selection and leads an experienced group that includes Salvadoran defender Juana Plata and Guatemalan forward Ana Lucía Martínez.
PANAMA
Santa Fe FC
Santa Fe FC has qualified as the 2024 Liga de Fútbol Femenino champion. Star goalkeeper Yenith Bailey, winner of the Golden Glove Award at the 2018 Concacaf W Championship, headlines the squad alongside midfielders Schiandra Gonzalez and Sherline King, Panamanian representatives at the 2024 Concacaf W Gold Cup.
UNITED STATES
NJ/NY Gotham FC
NY/NJ Gotham FC has qualified for the 2024/25 Concacaf W Champions Cup as the 2023 NWSL champion. Juan Carlos Amoros’ squad counts with FIFA Women's World Cup winners in Kelley O'Hara, Rose Lavelle and Crystal Dunn along with Concacaf W Gold Cup champions in Lynn Williams and Margaret Purce.
San Diego Wave FC
San Diego Wave has qualified as the 2023 NWSL Shield champion, as the team with the best regular season record. Captain Alex Morgan, Concacaf W Gold Cup Golden Ball winner Jaedyn Shaw, and Mexican star Maria Sanchez will be tasked with providing goals for the squad led by English manager Casey Stoney.
Portland Thorns FC
The Portland Thorns qualified as the next best club in the 2023 NWSL Shield standings. The three-time league champions count with a star-studded squad with longtime Concacaf standouts in Rebecca Sauerbrunn, Christine Sinclair, and Janine Beckie along with the next wave of United States stars in Sophia Smith and Olivia Moultrie.
