Tigres Femenil meets LD Alajuense in W Champions Cup

MIAMI — The 2024/25 Concacaf W Champions Cup resumes with match week four of the group stage as the competition enters a crucial stage in the race to advance to the next round.

Vancouver Whitecaps FC will play their first CWCC match at BC Place as it begins a two-match home stretch and the week’s schedule on Tuesday. The week concludes on Thursday with a clash of all-time league winners in Mexico and Costa Rica face off when Tigres UANL Femenil host LD Alajuelense.

Vancouver Whitecaps vs. San Diego Wave 

Vancouver Whitecaps FC host San Diego Wave FC in Group B on Tuesday at BC Place in Vancouver, Canada.

The Canadian club will play its first home match of the tournament after being the visitors in its opening two encounters and the preliminary round. Brianne Reed and Jourdan Ziff lead the team with one goal apiece in the current campaign.

San Diego Wave will look to get another set of points in foreign soil and extend a streak of two consecutive victories. Maria Sanchez led a comeback 3-2 win at home with a hat-trick against the Portland Thorns. Sanchez has four goals overall and is the tournament’s leading scorer.

Portland Thorns vs. Santa Fe FC 

Portland Thorns face Santa Fe FC in Group B on Tuesday at Providence Park in Portland, Oregon. Both teams will look to rebound from a defeat in their previous match.

The Thorns will turn to their home field to rebound from a 3-2 defeat away at San Diego. The three-time NWSL champions won 3-1 against Club America Femenil to open its season in match week one, thanks to a brace from Christine Sinclair and a goal from Reilyn Turner. Sophia Smith and Reilyn Turner scored in the previous match and will seek to add their names again on the scoresheet.

Santa Fe FC will play its fourth and final W Champions Cup group stage match. Unable to advance to the next round, the Panamanian side seeks to exit with its first points in the tournament. Goalkeeper Yenith Bailey has been a notable player with 13 saves in two starts. María Murillo has scored the only goal so far for the club.

Frazsiers Whip vs. Gotham FC 

Frazsiers Whip welcomes NJ/NY Gotham FC in Group A on Wednesday at the National Stadium in Kingston, Jamaica.

Davia Richards made history by scoring the first goal for the Jamaican side in the team’s previous encounter at Tigres Femenil. Unable to advance to the semifinals, Frazsiers Whip will seek to exit the tournament on a positive note in its final match of the campaign.

Gotham FC will seek its second victory to remain among the top two in the group. Goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Berger and her defensive line have stood out with zero goals conceded.

Tigres Femenil vs. LD Alajuelense 

Tigres UANL Femenil hosts LD Alajuelense in Group A on Thursday at Estadio Universitario in San Nicolás de los Garza, Mexico.

Six-time Liga MX Femenil champions, Tigres Femenil will look to keep their place at the top of the group with a victory. Las Amazonas offensive has been one of the most effective in the tournament with 11 goals in two matches. Club legend Stephany Mayor scored twice in the team’s last encounter, a 7-1 win over Frazsiers.

Seven-time league champions of Costa Rica, LD Alajuelense will travel to Mexico in search of its second victory in the tournament. Las Leonas won in their W Champions Cup debut as Angela Mesen scored a brace in a 5-nil victory against Frazsiers Whip. María Paula Coto, Natalia Mills, and Kenia Rangel have scored the other goals for the club in the current campaign.
