HOUSTON, Texas — Paraguay and Canada vie for first place, while El Salvador and Costa Rica play for their first points when Group C action resumes in the 2024 Concacaf W Gold Cup on Sunday at Shell Energy Stadium in Houston, United States.
Paraguay vs. Canada
Paraguay and Canada look to build on their victories over Costa Rica and El Salvador, respectively, on Thursday night. The Canucks hold first place on goal difference, but Las Guaraníes could take the top spot for themselves with a victory.
Lice Chamorro scored Paraguay’s lone goal in a tightly contested meeting with Costa Rica. A top target in attack, Chamorro took 63 percent of the shots in the opening match.
Cloe Lacasse shined for Canada in a 6-0 win against El Salvador. Lacasse scored the opening goal and went on to supply three assists. Adriana Leon also had a noteworthy performance with a brace. Jordyn Huitema, Kadeisha Buchanan, and Olivia Smith scored the other goals for a well-oiled Canadian offense.
Sunday’s encounter will mark the first encounter between Canada and Paraguay.

El Salvador vs. Costa Rica
El Salvador and Costa Rica match up for another edition of their Central American rivalry. Las Ticas lead the series with 10 victories across several competitions.
With goal difference as a tiebreaker, La Selecta needs not only a victory but goals in favor to avoid a hectic final matchday.
The Salvadoran offense, which scored 28 total goals in its qualification to the tournament, was limited to three shots against Canada. Brenda Ceren had some of the better chances on Thursday night and will be looking to jump-start the Salvadoran contingent.
Despite falling to Paraguay, Costa Rica generated more opportunities in the first half until a free kick in the 51’ decided the game.
The likes of Gloriana Villalobos and María Paula Salas helped generate more shots on the night but were denied by a masterful performance from Paraguay goalkeeper Alicia Bobadilla.
