MIAMI, Florida – Costa Rica will try to rebound from their opening defeat to Haiti in Group C of League A of the Road to W Gold Cup, as they face Saint Kitts and Nevis on Monday night at the Estadio Nacional in San Jose, Costa Rica.
Fresh off their participation in the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia/New Zealand, the Ticas fell 1-0 to Haiti to begin their Road To W Gold Cup campaign.
Costa Rica had their fair share of chances, including a Raquel Rodriguez free kick that sailed wide toward the end of the first half, a Sheika Scott opportunity just after the hour mark and a late header off the crossbar.
A chance to put Thursday’s defeat behind them is presented against a Saint Kitts and Nevis side that is making its first appearance in the tournament.
Saint Kitts and Nevis have shown in recent years that they are one of the rising teams in the Caribbean and they will be out for revenge after losing to Costa Rica in 2022 Concacaf W Championship Qualification.
Strikers Phoenetia Browne and Jahzara Claxton both found the back of the net in 2022 CWC Qualification and are two of the more dangerous players for the Caribbean side.
