Cuba get first crack in Road to W Gold Cup vs. Saint Lucia

MIAMI, Florida – The Cuban Women’s National Team will get their first taste of action in the Road to W Gold Cup when they face Saint Lucia in Group B of League C on Friday evening at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground in Gros Islet, Saint Lucia.

Cuba were very impressive in their last Concacaf competition when they finished in second place in Group E of 2022 Concacaf W Championship Qualifying.

Cuba accumulated a 2W-1D-1L record and outscored opponents 17-6, with their lone defeat coming against 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup side Haiti.

Leading the way for Cuba in that campaign was Yeranis Lee with seven goals and the 24-year-old midfielder will be keen to have a similar return in her team’s four matches in League C.

Rachel Pelaez, who had four goals in 2022 CWC Qualifying, is another player that the Saint Lucia defense will have to keep tabs on.

Meanwhile, after not participating in 2022 CWC Qualifying, a new generation of Saint Lucia women’s players will be aiming to take a step forward for the nation’s program with a solid performance in front of the home fans.
