MIAMI. - Guyana all but sealed its place into the preliminaries, as the Road To W Gold Cup tournament features continued with four League B encounters on Wednesday.
Suriname started the day with a victory to continue its chase for first place in Group A, but Guyana widened its gap with a dominant victory over Dominica. The Lady Jags maintain their three-point lead and have built a tough goal differential to overcome, as the Prelims spot will be decided on the final matchday.
El Salvador extended its winning streak to five with a hard-fought win at Martinique. Nicaragua edged Honduras in a tightly contested match to wrap up action in Group B.
Antigua and Barbuda vs. Suriname
Suriname took a 1-0 away victory against Antigua and Barbuda at the ABFA Technical Center in Piggotts, Antigua and Barbuda.
Suriname’s Katoucha Patra had a good look on goal in the 12’ after receiving a ball over the top, but the attempt was denied by Anik Jarvis.
Patra had another attempt in the 36’, on the edge of the box but her attempt was just over the crossbar.
Patra finally found the back of the net in the 45+3’, finishing up a build-up from the visitors to take the lead before the half.
Shamaira Stekkinger just missed the inside of the top bar in the 61’, as Suriname pressed for a second.
Jarvis stopped two close attempts in the 70’ and 90+1’ as she ended the day with 11 saves.
Dominica vs. Guyana
Guyana won 9-0 against Dominica at the Dr. Ir. Franklin Essed Stadium in Paramaribo, Suriname.
Otesha Charles opened the scoring in the 4' with a left-footed strike from outside the box.
Shanice Alferd extended the lead in the 19', converting on a delivery after a short pass from a corner kick.
Brianne Desa struck from the penalty spot in the 28' with a right-footed hit to the upper right corner.
Stefani Kouzas had an attempt from inside the penalty arc in the 34' for Guyana’s fourth of the night.
Annalisa Vincent struck inside the area in the 38', finding a lob pass from Desa to cement a strong 5-0 lead before halftime.
Anya Tribune got on the board in the 61’ after pushing the ball past the goal line after the ball was assisted with a header on a free kick.
Charles earned her brace in the 74', striking first time with her right foot past goalkeeper Celia Gregoire.
In similar fashion, this time with a ball over the top, Charles struck again in the 79' to collect her first hat-trick of the campaign.
Vincent headed in her second of the night in the 88', connecting with a Charles service off a corner to complete the 9-0 scoreline.
Nicaragua vs. Honduras
Nicaragua won 2-1 over Honduras at the Independencia Stadium in Estelí, Nicaragua.
Doriana Aguilar struck first in the 12’ after finishing in front of goal from a Nicaragua build-up. Yessenia Flores provided the assist after driving into the box to connect with a through ball.
Lesbia Puerto equalized for Honduras 1-1 in the 16’ off a lobbed pass into the box from Mayra Ramos.
Flores had a shot go just wide in the 28’, as the hosts continued to have a bit more of the offensive chances.
Aguilar regained the lead in the 51’ after heading in a rebounded ball in front of goal. Maria Rivas had the previous attempt denied by the top post, but Nicaragua regained the lead nonetheless.
Honduras had a final opportunity off a corner kick, but the hosts defended it to seal the win and the three points.
Martinique vs. El Salvador
El Salvador earned a 2-0 victory over Martinique at the Pierre-Aliker Stadium in Fort-de-France, Martinique.
Martinique GK Emmeline Mainguy denied an opportunity from Samaria Gomez in the 4’ as the group leaders looked for their fifth consecutive victory.
Brenda Ceren created several opportunities throughout the match including one in the 24’ where she crossed in an opportunity that Danya Gutierrez nearly headed on frame.
Aurelie Rouge was then denied by the woodwork in the 38’ as Martinique went for the upset.
Victoria Sanchez got the opener in the 64’, connecting on a free kick service from Ceren.
Following a foul from Martinique inside the penalty area, Ceren converted from the spot in the 79’ with a shot into the left bottom corner of goal for the 2-0 final.
