Guyana target first-place finish vs Antigua & Barbuda

Published on

Guyana looks to clinch first place in Group A of League B as the Road To W Gold Cup tournament begins its final matchday on Sunday.

A draw would be enough to see Guyana clinch its ticket to the 2024 Concacaf W Gold Cup Prelims. Suriname is three points behind and still has hope for the top spot, but would need a win and Guyana loss, plus the tiebreaker on goal differential.

El Salvador looks to finish with a perfect record as the top team in Group B. Nicaragua, Honduras and Martinique all look to finish second in the group.

Honduras vs. Martinique

Honduras hosts Martinique at the Chelato Ucles Stadium in Tegucigalpa, Honduras.

After starting its campaign with a 2-0 home win against Martinique, Honduras is searching for its second win of the tournament following a four-match winless skid. Martinique is also looking for its second victory of its campaign after a draw and a loss.

Lesbia Puerto leads Honduras with three goals, two of which came in that win over Martinique on matchday one. Puerto found the back of the net again in a 2-1 loss at Nicaragua on Wednesday.

Martinique is coming off a 2-0 loss to leaders El Salvador. Prisca Carin, Ludmila Gaydu, and Maeva Salomon will look for their second goal of the tournament to take the team lead.

Guyana vs. Antigua and Barbuda

Guyana meets Antigua and Barbuda at the Dr. Ir. Franklin Essed Stadium in Paramaribo, Suriname.

Needing only a point to seal the group lead, Guyana will look for its fifth victory of its campaign. The Lady Jags are coming off their largest margin of victory with a 9-0 win against Dominica.

Antigua and Barbuda will look to rebound from a loss to Suriname last Wednesday. The Benna Girls started the tournament with a 2-1 victory over Guyana with a brace from Gabrielle De Suza.

El Salvador vs. Nicaragua

El Salvador and Nicaragua square off at the Jorge "El Mágico" Gonzalez Stadium in San Salvador, El Salvador.

A win would seal a perfect campaign for El Salvador, who have yet to taste anything but victory in its campaign. La Selecta will close out in front of its home fans, as it strives for a sixth consecutive win after already sealing the first-place spot.

El Salvador is coming off a 2-0 victory at Martinique where it was held scoreless until the 64th minute. Victoria Sanchez broke the deadlock before Brenda Ceren extended the lead from the penalty spot.

Nicaragua arrives as the second-place team in Group B following a 2-1 win over Honduras. Doriana Aguilar scored twice to take the team lead in goals.

Suriname vs. Dominica

Suriname faces Dominica at the Dr. Ir. Franklin Essed Stadium in Paramaribo, Suriname.

Katoucha Patra scored against Antigua and Barbuda to keep Suriname alive in the race for first place. Patra collected her second goal to lead the team in goals alongside Andaya Lantveld.

Dominica will want to bounce back from a tough loss to leaders Guyana. Starr Humphreys leads the team with two goals and will be a player to watch as Dominica searches for its second win in the group stage.
