SAN DIEGO, California – A new chapter of women’s football will be written on Wednesday evening when Brazil and Mexico take the field at Snapdragon Stadium for a ticket to the Final of the 2024 Concacaf W Gold Cup.
These teams have faced each other 17 times in their history, Brazil leading the series with an overall record of 14W-1D-2L. The last time Mexico defeated Brazil was a 2-0 win at the Universiade Tournament in 2019.
They also competed in the Olympic Games that Mexico was part of at Athens 2004, the Brazilians getting a 5-0 win in the quarterfinals.
The Selecao faced Argentina in the quarterfinals, earning a 5-1 win to become one of the Semifinalists. Brazil now have an overall record of 4W-0D-0L in four games played.
MF Bia Zaneratto has been a consistent player for Brazil, getting a brace in the quarterfinals. She knows what it means to score against Mexico, as she scored and assisted three times in a friendly in 2019. FW Gabi Nunes is another player that has helped Brazil, scoring the winning goal in their first game versus Puerto Rico and the fourth against Argentina in the quarterfinals.
Mexico showed resilience when winning 3-2 against Paraguay in the quarterfinals, and have displayed a great offensive form with 77 scoring opportunities and 33 shots on target in the tournament. They also conceded their first goals against Paraguay after having kept a clean sheet in their previous seven games overall.
FW Jacqueline Ovalle has been showing off her magic, accumulating five goals so far, scoring two of those in the quarterfinals. She also has two assists and has amassed 12 shots on target.

Another player that has given El Tricolor a push to reach this stage is GK Esthefanny Barreras, who had a clean sheet in every game before facing Paraguay. She has seven saves in the tournament, her most important one in the quarterfinals when she stopped a penalty kick.
With one of the tickets to the Final up for grabs, these two teams will leave everything on the field in the first Semifinal of the 2024 W Gold Cup.
