The 2022 Concacaf W Championship begins on July 4 in Monterrey, Mexico with eight teams hoping to be one of three sides that qualify for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia/New Zealand and the winner also advancing to the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Current Olympic champions Canada are ready to keep proving themselves to the world.

Always a strong contender for the title, Canada will be making their 10th CWC appearance in Monterrey. They have been crowned champions on two occasions, as hosts in 1998 and then at Mexico 2010. They were not present at USA 2014 as Canada was the host for the 2015 Women’s World Cup.

They earned the runner-up position at Haiti 1991, Canada 1994, Canada/United States 2002, USA 2006 and USA 2018, along with a third-place finish at USA 1993 and fourth place at USA 2000.

Canada have a record of 29W-1D-9L in 39 CWC games played, outscoring their opponents 179-32.

This team has legendary names as their top historic scorers in the CWC, from Charmaine Hooper with 34 goals, Silvana Burtini with 25 goals and followed closely by Christine Sinclair with 24 goals to her name. To complete this incredible list, the other top scorers are Adriana Leon with six goals, and Jonelle Filigno and Jordyn Huitema with four goals each.

Before earning their first place finish at Tokyo 2020, they won two bronze medals at London 2012 and Rio 2016. The Canadian team has been part of the Women’s World Cup seven times total, in Sweden 1995, USA 1999, USA 2003, China 2007, Germany 2011, as hosts in 2015 and France 2019.
