VANCOUVER -- Vancouver Whitecaps FC announced Monday the signing of midfielder Deybi Flores to a multi-year contract, finalizing a transfer that saw the Honduras international spend last year at the Major League Soccer club on loan from Motagua.
It was an eventful 2015 for the 19-year-old, who made nine appearances in MLS play, earned his first senior cap in a December 16 friendly against Cuba and played the full 90 minutes in all three of the Catrachos’ matches at the 2015 FIFA U-20 World Cup.
“Deybi showed flashes of promise in his first year in MLS,” said Whitecaps FC head coach Carl Robinson. “He has the tools to become a regular contributor on both ends of the pitch. We expect him to continue to grow and improve, and we're pleased to have him at the club.”
Flores also competed in two games during Vancouver’s run to the Amway Canadian Championship crown and saw minutes in all four Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League outings.
He also helped Honduras finish in third place at the 2015 CONCACAF Under-20 Championship, playing in five games.
Prior to joining Whitecaps FC last February, Flores started in 16 of his 21 appearances in his two years with Motagua. During that time, he was part of the squad that captured the 2014 Honduran Apertura title.
